One of the most enjoyable ways to experience the Colorado River is by boat, from Laughlin, NV to Lake Havasu, AZ. You may own your boat or decide to rent one for the day, the weekend, or the week; regardless, safety in boating is every boat operator’s responsibility. Hiring a Sober Captain, aka Designated Operator, who is familiar with the local river and current boating laws will ensure you will have a safe, relaxing, and pleasurable day on the river. A Sober Captain will decrease the possibility of an intoxicated boat operator on the water, especially on busy holiday weekends, and reduce the likelihood of an unwanted, under-the-influence-related boat accident. Throughout the year, water levels on the Colorado River can change up to six-foot daily depending on the amount of water released from Davis Dam and Parker Dam. The water level of the river is vital information to know as you learn to navigate the river. Capt. Jamie will teach you how to read the water release schedules, including where the water will be and at what time. He will incorporate this information into all or part of the 59-mile river navigation lesson and include water depth, natural curves, rock formations, sandbars, and areas to avoid. Knowledge gained during this time may reduce the likelihood of possible boating incidents that may leave you stranded from running aground, damaging your boat motor, or the entire boat. Call Capt. Jamie, for more information!
